Health: 3 Superstars I Want to Do Lunch With in 2014

This year, I want to do lunch with Dr. Andrew Weil, Dr. Ginger Southall, and Reverend George Malkmus. I want to watch these people eat. I want to see what food they put on their plates and ask them why. I want to get dessert ideas from them. Do I have a strange fetish? An obsession for which I need to seek psychiatric treatment? No, it’s  just that these people are remarkable because of what they’ve accomplished in the nutrition arena and how they help others to be healthy and to thrive. When I’m around people like this, it rubs off on me  and I make wiser choices as well.

Health: Who Are These People?

At a young age, Dr. Ginger Southall saw her father die of lung cancer, and it drastically affected the rest of her life. Her dad’s doctor had communicated that there was nothing that could be done and that her dad simply needed to get his affairs in order and  die, which he did. Even though she was young, Dr. Southall sensed that there was a lot more that could have been pursued for her father, and this ultimately led her into the field of alternative medicine.  After graduating from the State University Of New York at Stony Brook and going on to earn her doctorate degree at New York Chiropractic College, Dr. Southall specializes in helping people to regain their health. Then let’s talk about George Malkmus. In the 1970’s, he was diagnosed with colon cancer, an illness his mother had died from despite chemo and radiation therapy. When he himself was diagnosed with this horrible illness, George immediately turned to a diet of raw vegetables and fruits. After about a year, his tumor and every other problematic bodily symptom was gone. George is now around 80, and has continued in remarkable health since the 1970’s by adhering to a mostly-raw vegetarian diet. And then there’s Dr. Weil, a graduate of Harvard Medical School. As a medical doctor, he has been a pioneer in alternative and integrative medicine, writing numerous books, teaching at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, and establishing the university’s Program in Integrative Medicine. Hundreds of physicians, physician’s assistants, and nurse practitioners have been trained there in the techniques of integrative medicine. Health:  Let’s Be Healthy in 2014

It seems like every month I’m hearing about a family member or friend diagnosed with a life-controlling illness. When I read or listen to people like Ginger, George, and Andrew, I become compelled to make healthy choices about what I put in my body. When I don’t expose myself to people like these, I easily fall into the traps of the SAD diet…the Standard American Diet. Of the course, we don’t have to actually do lunch with these people in order to eat lunch like them.  Check out their websites and take your next steps toward living a thriving life, a life of flourishing health, so that you can magnificently achieve the things you were put here on earth to do.
